A wallet is the app that holds your private keys and signs your transactions. Which one suits you depends on what you plan to do: simply hold, stake, or use apps. Here are the realistic options.

Official Velas Wallet

Velas offers its own multi-currency wallet with staking built in, on mobile, desktop and web per velas.com. It understands both the native and EVM sides of the network, which makes it the easiest way to stake. The trade-off is that a software wallet on a phone or computer is only as secure as that device. Our Velas Wallet review covers setup in detail.

EVM wallets such as MetaMask

Because Velas has an EVM side, you can add the network to an EVM wallet as a custom network and use it with Ethereum-style apps. This is convenient if you already use such a wallet, but staking natively usually requires the Velas wallet. The EVM compatibility guide has the network details.

Hardware wallets

A hardware wallet keeps keys on a separate device that never exposes them to your computer. Support for a particular chain depends on the wallet maker's software, so check that VLX or the Velas network is supported before buying. Some people use a hardware wallet with an EVM wallet interface for the ERC-20 token, which is a common setup.

Security basics that matter most

How to back up a wallet properly

A recovery phrase is the only copy of your access, so the quality of the backup is the quality of your security. Write it clearly on paper, check each word against the wordlist spelling, and read it back once to be sure. Many people store two copies in separate physical locations, such as a home safe and a trusted relative's house, so a fire or flood does not erase the only record. Avoid storing it in cloud notes, email drafts or photos, since those are scanned by malware and can be synced to accounts you do not fully control.

Test the backup before you rely on it. Install the wallet on a second device, restore from the phrase with a tiny balance, and confirm the same addresses appear. It takes ten minutes and removes the most common failure: discovering a typo only when you need the funds.

Which should you pick?

If you want to stake, use the official wallet. If you mostly trade or use apps, an EVM wallet is practical. If the amount is significant and you will hold for a long time, consider a hardware device. Many people combine two. Remember that VLX tokens on Ethereum or BNB Chain need a wallet for that network.

Matching the wallet to your habits

The best wallet is the one you will use correctly. A person who checks their phone constantly and wants to stake will probably be happier with the official app than with a complicated hardware setup they avoid using. A person who rarely moves coins may prefer a hardware device even if it is slower to operate. Whatever you pick, keep the amount you hold in a convenient hot wallet small, and keep the rest somewhere harder to reach. Also check that the wallet supports the network where your particular VLX version lives, so you do not discover a mismatch after sending funds.

Can I keep VLX on an exchange?

You can, but then the exchange holds your keys. Self-custody is safer long term if you manage backups carefully.

Does MetaMask support VLX?
